Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky has condemned what he described as “horrific murder” of former Speaker of the Parliament, Andriy Parubiy.
Parubiy was shot dead on Saturday in the western city of Lviv, authorities said.
A very influential politician, Parubiy was parliamentary speaker in the 2010s. Zelensky said no effort will be spared to unravel the circumstance behind his killing.
Parubiy, 54, “died on the spot as a result of his injuries”, police authorities say.
According to the police, manhunt has commenced for the gunman. They added that the motive for the killing was unclear.
Parubiy, who was speaker of parliament from 2016 to 2019, had been a prominent supporter of the pro-European Orange Revolution in 2004 and the Maidan Revolution in 2014.
