Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, popularly known as the Super Falcons, will reportedly face their Portuguese counterparts in an international friendly match in June as part of preparations for the 2024 African Women’s Nations Cup.
Though not yet confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the proposed test game comes after nearly five months of inactivity.
The Super Falcons last played on 30 November 2024, when they suffered a 2-1 defeat to France’s Les Bleues in Angers, with Ifeoma Onumonu making history by scoring Nigeria’s first-ever goal against the French team.
Prior to that, they had played a two-legged international friendly against Algeria, first in Ikenne, Ogun State, and then in Lagos State, Nigeria.
The CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2024, will take place from 5 to 26 July 2025.
The draw for the 15th edition of WAFCON was held on Friday, 22 November 2024, at the Mohammed VI Technical Centre in Salé, Morocco. Nigeria is placed in Group B alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana.
