The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Interpol, and Kenyan police are reportedly engaged in negotiations regarding the transfer of Binance executive Nadeem Anjarwalla to Nigerian authorities.
Local media outlets suggest that Kenyan law enforcement will hand over Anjarwalla to Nigerian authorities within a week. The EFCC, Interpol, and Kenya Police are said to be in the final stages of negotiation, with details of the extradition process expected to be finalized soon.
This move is viewed as a strong indication of the EFCC’s commitment to addressing distortions and disruptions in Nigeria’s forex market by taking over the prosecution of Binance executives.
Law enforcement agencies suspect that individuals associated with the exchange bear responsibility for its actions and could potentially face legal action.
However, Anjarwalla’s wife has denied reports of her husband’s extradition, and law enforcement agencies have not officially confirmed this information.
Recall that Anjarwalla serves as Binance’s Regional Head for East and West Africa. In late February 2024, Nigerian authorities arrested him and another exchange employee, Tigran Gambaryan, alleging tax evasion and money laundering against top Binance executives.
In late March, Anjarwalla reportedly fled using a Kenyan passport. Nigerian security forces tracked him down in Kenya and arrested him.
