Morocco welcomed a record 19.8 million tourists in 2025, a 14% rise from that of 2024, the tourism ministry said on Monday.
Tourism accounts for about 7% of the North African country’s gross domestic product and is a key source of jobs and foreign currency.
Between January and November, tourism revenue totalled 124 billion dirhams ($13.5 billion), up 19% year-on-year, the ministry said in a statement.
Authorities said this surge in visitors reflects the growing popularity of Morocco as a travel destination and underscores its strategic efforts to enhance the country’s appeal on the global tourism map.
Morocco aims to reach 26 million tourists by 2030, when it will co-host the World Cup games with Spain and Portugal.
Morocco has opened additional air routes to key tourist markets, while promoting new destinations within the country and encouraging the industry to renovate and open new hotels.
Morocco has been enhancing its transportation network. A significant part of the country’s strategy has also involved the expansion of its air connectivity.
The introduction of additional international flights has made it easier for tourists to access Morocco’s diverse landscapes, from its bustling cities to its tranquil deserts and coastal retreats.
It is also not just relying on its famous cities, such as Marrakesh, Casablanca, and Fes, to attract visitors, the country has been actively promoting less explored destinations across its diverse regions.
From the majestic Atlas Mountains to the untouched beaches along the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts, Morocco’s lesser-known locales are drawing tourists seeking new experiences.
This broader focus helps to ease overcrowding in popular areas while allowing tourists to explore a wider range of destinations that reflect Morocco’s varied charm.
The government is also emphasizing the renovation of existing accommodations and the creation of new ones. As demand for lodging increases, the hospitality sector is responding by expanding both high-end and budget-friendly options.
