As part of the Board’s effort to boost access to the in-country marine vessel capacities, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB has unveiled the Marine Vessel Information System Software (MAVIS) to industry stakeholders, in Lagos.
The application was unveiled at an engagement organized by the Board in Lagos on Wednesday. Speaking at the programme, the General Manager, Upstream Monitoring, NCDMB, Engr. Jefferson Tuatongha noted that the Board had identified gap areas in its NOGICJQS Marine Categorisation.
He pointed that the Board has been working to create a system that will close the gaps and strengthen the Boards ability to monitor compliance and effectively categorize assets in the marine sector in order for stakeholders to have real time access to data on marine assets.
Engr. Tuatongha further disclosed that the MAVIS system is designed to be available for mobile devices as well as desktop basis.
He mentioned that the application will enable stakeholders to conduct inventory searches of vessels and vendors, verification of licenses, certifications and status of assets of all marine assets operating within the Nigerian borders and beyond using integrated APIs linked to several global marine asset databases.
The app also contains databases of government agencies in the Nigerian petroleum and marine industry.
Presenting the demo to stakeholders, the Chairman of the Nigerian Content Consultative Forum (NCCF), Shipping and Logistic Sectorial Working Group (S&L- SWG), Mina Ofriokuma highlighted some of the value proposition of MAVIS for the industry which includes robust repository for marine assets, improved administration and governance, efficiency in operations and cost reduction.
He further noted that the platform will enhance port utilization and operations, improved logistics, safety and environmental standards, reduction in downtime, enhance risk assessment and underwriting and improved fleet management.
According to him, the application is MAVIS is still under development and to be launched into the industry later by NCDMB and NCCF S&L SSWG after effecting relevant changes and suggestions made by stakeholders in the course of the engagement.
The stakeholder engagement which took place at Protea Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, saw a robust attendance of key stakeholders including operators, vendors and government agencies from the petroleum and maritime industries.
