Nigeria’s Super Eagles players and coaching crew on Tuesday June 13, 2023, staged a Guard of Honour for Napoli hitman, Victor Osimhen, few weeks after he helped his club win the Serie A title in over three decades.
The Nigerian team already in high and bubbling spirit ahead of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone in Monrovia, Liberia capital also extended same celebration for assistant Super Eagles coach Finidi George who won the 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday June 11, 2023 with Enyimba.
Finidi played for Super Eagles, known as Green Eagles in his active playing days.
Also celebrated were Enyimba’s goalkeeper and new invitee Olorunleke Ojo who was pivotal in his club’s 9th league triumph.
Enyimba won the league after emerging top with goal difference to edge second-placed Remo stars after intensely contested playoffs also dubbed Super 6 in Lagos.Rivers United finished third.
The three top sides will represent Nigeria next season in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
Portugal-based defender Zaidu Sanusi was also honoured for winning the Allianz Cup, Taca de Portugal Cup, and Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira trophy with FC Porto.
Nigeria is topping their qualifying pool going into next game against the Leone Stars who are already talking tough and fancying their chances of pulling a surprise.
