The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has issued a stern condemnation of recent efforts by certain individuals to procure arms and disrupt the peace and constitutional order in Sierra Leone.

In an official press statement on Sunday, the regional bloc called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of all individuals involved in this unlawful act.

Emphasizing its steadfast commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against any unconstitutional change of government in the region, ECOWAS reiterated its support for Sierra Leone’s government and its people.

Furthermore, the organization pledged to assist in reinforcing democratic principles, promoting good governance, and contributing to the consolidation of peace, security, and socio-economic development in Sierra Leone.

In the wake of this threat to stability, ECOWAS therefore urged all Sierra Leoneans to remain calm and united.

Also, expressing readiness to collaborate with the government to ensure the safety and security of the nation’s citizens, reaffirming its dedication to helping as needed.

Recall that HT had earlier reported that President Julius Maada Bio, had confirmed an attack on the military armoury by unidentified individuals as he announced a nationwide curfew to enhance safety. He urged citizens to stay indoors as Security Forces work to track down the remaining perpetrators.
