Amnesty International has expressed deep concern over the rising wave of killings, abductions, and violent attacks across Nigeria, calling on the government to take decisive action to protect its citizens.
In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter on Tuesday, the global human rights organisation said Nigerian authorities must fulfil their constitutional and international obligations by addressing the growing insecurity that has left millions of citizens living in fear.
“The Nigerian authorities must live up to their obligations by ending the alarming escalation of attacks, abductions for ransom, and frequent killings across Nigeria that have left people feeling more unsafe,” Amnesty International stated.
The organisation criticised what it described as the government’s “inability to end the incessant killings or bring perpetrators to justice,” warning that such failures continue to threaten the right to life and undermine public confidence in the country’s security framework.
Amnesty International’s statement adds to the already exsiting concerns from both local and international observers about the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, where banditry, communal clashes, and insurgent attacks have continued to claim lives.
The group therefore, urged the Nigerian government to strengthen law enforcement responses, ensure accountability for human rights violations, and provide justice for victims and their families.
