Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Nigeria, Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo has slumped and died in his office, Heritage Times HT reports.
Sources close to the Bayelsa Government House confirmed the news of his death on Thursday.
Ewhrudjakpo who has served alongside Governor Douye Diri since 2020, recently refused to defect alongside his principal from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that tainted the relationship between the duo.
Upon collapsing in his office, Ewhrudjakpo, was reportedly rushed to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Yenagoa where he was confirmed dead.
Ewhrudjakpo, 60, had law degrees and management qualifications, and previously represented Bayelsa West in the Senate.
