The United States Mission has reaffirmed its long-standing partnership with Nigeria, stressing that bilateral relations remain strong despite recent disruptions, including the temporary shutdown of its embassy operations in Abuja.
In a statement posted on its official X handle on Monday, the mission highlighted the depth of cooperation between both countries across critical sectors such as security, trade, health, education, and cultural exchange.
“The United States and Nigeria share deep ties in security, trade, health, education, and culture, and these people-to-people connections remain strong and vital to our shared prosperity,” the mission said.
The reassurance comes in the wake of heightened concerns following the recent closure of the US Embassy in Nigeria’s capital city, a development that had raised questions about diplomatic and security dynamics. However, the latest message signals continuity in engagement and commitment.
According to the mission, collaboration between both nations remains crucial in tackling shared regional and global challenges, particularly in areas such as counterterrorism efforts, economic development, and public health interventions.
It further noted that the relationship extends beyond formal diplomatic channels, highlighting robust connections among citizens, institutions, and private sector stakeholders in both countries.
The Mission added that these enduring partnerships continue to play a vital role in strengthening stability, creating economic opportunities, and improving social outcomes.
The statement also pointed to ongoing engagements in trade facilitation, educational exchange programmes, and healthcare initiatives as evidence of sustained cooperation.
Officials maintain that the Nigeria-United States relationship remains a cornerstone of broader US engagement in Africa, anchored on mutual interests and shared values.
Despite recent operational challenges in Abuja, the reaffirmation signals that both countries remain committed to deepening ties and advancing collaboration across multiple fronts.
