US President Donald Trump has released CCTV footage and still images of a suspect linked to the shooting incident that disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, DC, offering new insight into the dramatic security breach.
The footage, shared shortly before the president addressed the media, allegedly captures the suspect rushing into the ballroom of the Washington Hilton, appearing to bypass security metal detectors as armed security personnel scrambled to intercept him. Additional images circulated by Trump show a shirtless man lying face down in a foyer, hands restrained behind his back, believed to be the suspect.
Trump described the individual as a “would-be assassin,” saying he was heavily armed and had forced his way past a key security checkpoint before being subdued. Reports by BBC quoted the president as saying the suspect “charged past a security checkpoint” carrying multiple weapons.
The president further disclosed that a law enforcement officer was shot during the chaos but survived due to wearing a bulletproof vest.
The incident unfolded on Saturday night during the high-profile event, triggering panic among attendees and prompting the swift evacuation of senior government officials, journalists, and guests.
Authorities have since confirmed that the suspect is in custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack and how the breach occurred despite tight security at one of Washington’s most prominent gatherings.
