A military court in the Moroto district of northern Uganda has condemned 32 citizens of Kenya to 10 years in prison.
They were found guilty of illegally possessing ammunition and firearms, crimes that might have been tried in a Ugandan military court.
Col. Deo Akiiki, the deputy army spokesperson for Uganda, has verified the penalties.
The punishment for each offence is a 10-year prison sentence, and the court decided that the convicted must spend their terms side by side.
All of the Kenyans live in the neighbouring Lodwar district. They entered their guilty plea and were found guilty; they will serve their terms in the government jail at Moroto.
Uganda’s army said the arrests were part of a regional disarmament exercise.
