The UN Security Council has collectively welcomed the formation of an interim unity government in Libya, noting that it is “an important milestone”.
Last week, the country agreed on the transitional body, comprising a prime minister and a three-member presidential council.
It’s intended to replace rival authorities in Tripoli and Benghazi.
If all goes well, the country will be ready to hold elections this year.
In a statement, the Security Council called for a comprehensive national reconciliation process.
Libya has been beset by violence since forces backed by NATO overthrew its leader, Muammar Gaddafi, in 2011.
