Nigeria and Senegal are now scheduled for tough semi-final showdown in the ongoing 2025 Women’s AfroBasket Tournament holding in Cote d’Ivoire.
This is after both sides prevaled over their opponents – Cameroon and hosts Cote d’Ivoire respectively in the quarter-final.
En Route Last Four Battle
While the Nigerian side crushed Cameroon 83-47, Senegal edged the Ivorians 66-60.
Earlier, South Sudan and Mali set-up a first semi-final clash.
World Cup Qualifying Tournament
Heritage Times HT reports that the four African teams that reached the last four stage have now secured their spots in the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournaments, which will take place in March of 2026.
According to FIBA, these teams have joined a group of 24 national teams that will compete in four FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 qualifying tournaments.
The Composition
Each tournament features six teams, and the tournaments will determine the 16 teams that will compete in the Women’s World Cup in Germany.
Brazil, Argentina, the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Colombia will represent the Americas in the World Cup Qualifiers.
Tickets for the World Cup Qualifying Tournaments went to the following Asian and Oceania teams – Japan, China, Korea, the Philippines, New Zealand, and Australia.
The European representatives are the 2026 World Cup hosts, Germany; the Czech Republic; Hungary; Belgium; France; Italy; Spain; and Turkey.
