According to a Monday announcement, the US Attorney’s office is investigating classified documents from President Joe Biden’s time serving as vice president and discovered last fall in a personal office.
Approximately a dozen documents were discovered at the Penn Biden Centre for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington, D.C., according to CBS News, and the US attorney’s office in Chicago was given the task of reviewing them. On November 2, the material was located by Biden’s private attorneys. The investigation also involves the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Richard Sauber, special counsel to Vice President Biden, released a statement saying that “the White House is collaborating with the National Archives and the Department of Justice on the discovery of what appear to be Obama-Biden Administration records, including a small number of documents with secret markings.”
Some top-secret files with the title “sensitive compartmented information,” which is used for very sensitive information gathered from intelligence sources, were among the restricted documents. The National Archives received notice from the White House Counsel’s Office and acquired the records the next day.
“The documents were not the focus of any prior inquiry or request by the Archives, “Sauber stated. “Since that discovery, the Obama-Biden Administration records have been properly transferred to the Archives with the help of the Department of Justice, the Archives, and the President’s personal attorneys.
Former President Donald Trump, whose Mar-a-Lago, Florida residence was raided by the FBI last August and where 15 boxes containing around 325 sensitive documents were seized, immediately criticized the revelation.
When will the FBI search Joe Biden’s numerous residences, perhaps even the White House? These records were most definitely not declassified, Trump stated on social media.
Republicans are also closely examining the finding.
Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said, “President Biden has been quite critical of President Trump for inadvertently taking sensitive materials to the house or wherever, and now it seems he may have done the same.” What irony.
Currently, Biden is attending a summit in Mexico City. According to reports from the conference, he disregarded loud queries from reporters concerning the secret documents.
A senior administration official accompanying the president indicated that “nothing has changed in his schedule.” He is concentrated on attending the summit and speaking with our closest neighbours.
