Former Ghana national team captain, Asamoah Gyan, has been directed to provide compensation to his ex-wife after a lengthy divorce case. The court has determined that Gyan is indeed the biological father of their three children, ending a three-year legal battle that involved allegations of infidelity and doubts about paternity.
As part of the court’s decision, Gyan has been instructed to allocate various assets and financial support to his ex-wife, Gifty Gyan. This includes providing her with a residence in the UK, another one in Accra, a petrol station, and two vehicles. Additionally, Gyan is required to pay 25,000 Ghanaian cedis per month (equivalent to $2,100 or £1,729) for the care and well-being of their children.
The legal dispute between Gyan and his ex-wife has been ongoing for several years, with previous accusations of infidelity and doubts about paternity.
However, a DNA test has now unequivocally established Gyan’s biological connection to the children, putting those doubts to rest.
The court has officially annulled the marriage, which had already ended, following a petition from Asamoah Gyan. In their judgment, the court recognized Gifty Gyan’s significant contributions to the acquisition of the properties in question, as she was primarily responsible for raising the children while Gyan pursued his professional football career.
Asamoah Gyan recently retired from football in June but leaves behind an impressive career as Ghana’s all-time top scorer, with 51 goals in 109 national team appearances.
He also holds the record as Africa’s leading goal scorer in World Cup history, having scored six goals across the 2006, 2010, and 2014 editions.
