Presidential candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has urged religious leaders in Ghana to speak out and address the nation’s current challenges.
According to him, religious leaders play a crucial role in shaping the country’s governance and have a significant responsibility to guide its direction.
He made this statement during what he named, “worship with the clergy” in Accra on Tuesday as part of his campaign for Election 2024. The purpose of the meeting was to seek the prayers and guidance of the religious leaders as part of his campaign for Election 2024.
Mahama also encouraged the church’s leadership to be actively involved in the election process, particularly in the tallying of results, to ensure transparency and fairness.
Mahama emphasized his dedication to the peace of the country, citing his personal commitment to being a peaceful leader.
He, therefore urged the clergy to take an active role in ensuring that all political parties adhere to processes that guarantee peaceful elections, especially in matters concerning the credibility of the voters’ register.
He said as the leader of the main opposition party, he will ensure that the NDC upholds peace.
Also, Mahama explained that his administration will conduct a comprehensive audit of all mining concessions across the country and establish their owners.
He noted that the audit would not only cover the concessions themselves but also identify the owners behind them.
The NDC leader explained that the purpose of this audit would be to ensure that those granted mining concessions are held accountable for any illegal mining activities that have occurred on their lands.
Furthermore, Mahama noted that his past electoral defeats have allowed him to reflect deeply on how to effectively transform the country if given the chance to lead again.
He insisted that a second term as President would enable him to manage the nation’s resources judiciously, with the aim of improving the socio-economic conditions of Ghanaians.
Mahama noted that Ghana needs a compassionate leader who genuinely prioritises the welfare of the country and its citizens.
He explained that he is committed to serving Ghana and has availed himself for God’s guidance in his leadership journey.
