Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, have arrested a Beninese immigrant, Adamu Sime, for incest.

The Command’s Spokesman, Mr Babawale Afolabi, confirmed this in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen in Ilorin, the state capital.

Mr Afolabi said that Mr Sime had been having an affair with his mother for a long time and it had resulted in three offspring.

It was learnt that Adamu’s brother also has an incestuous relationship with their mother, Fati Sime, meaning both brothers sleep with their mother.

According to the NSCDC, the mother and her two sons are illegal immigrants, as they don’t have the necessary papers to stay in Nigeria.

What the NSCDC spokesperson said

“On Thursday, September 09, 2021, one Malam Bandele, the district head of Moshe Community in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara state, reported the incestuous act committed by one Adamu Sabi Sime and his mother, Fati Sime of the same community.

“Men from the intelligence unit and NSCDC operatives in Kaiama swung into action and the outcome of investigations established the fact that the mother (Fati) has three children for her biological son.

“The younger brother of the suspect, who was also confirmed to be sleeping with the mother, is now at large.”

What You Should Know

In Nigeria, incest is a crime, by virtue of Section 3, subsection 1, sub-sub section b of the Matrimonial Causes Act. Section 33 of the Marriage Act also forbids sexual relations and marriage among people who are related by blood.

The Nigerian Criminal Code Act, in Section 214 (3), prescribes a minimum of 14 years imprisonment for those found guilty of incestuous liaison, which it referred to as “offence against morality.”
