The ongoing State Assembly poll in Bayelsa State has been disrupted by the actions of thugs who have hijacked and burnt election materials for three wards in Ogbia Constituency 2.

Sources say the Assembly seat in the area is being hotly contested by supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), as both parties struggle to form a majority in the upcoming State Assembly in Bayelsa State.

This is ahead of the governorship election which is scheduled to take place on November 11.

According to Mr. Wilfred Ifogah, the Head Voter Education and Publicity in Bayelsa State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received a report on the development, and will issue a statement on it later.

He said, “We received a report that materials meant for the State Assembly election in about two or three wards in Ogbia Constituency 2 were hijacked and burnt, maybe later we will get a statement on it.”

Meanwhile, it appears there will be no election in Ogbia Constituency 2 due to the actions of the thugs as INEC officials deployed to the constituency are reportedly heading back to Yenagoa, the state’s capital.
