Some of the students who spoke to newsmen said they started hearing gunshots at the institution’s gate at about 12am.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Commissioner of Police, ASP Wasiu Abiodun who confirmed the incidence, said the gunmen abducted two children of a shop owner opposite the gate of the campus.

He said an immediate response by the Police and vigilante squad has led to the arrest of one of the suspects during a stop and search operation at Barkuta village.

The victims are yet to be rescued.

The institution’s Student Union President, Shuaib Isiaka Yahaya, also confirmed the incident.

Also coonfirming the incident to newsmen, the State Commissioner of Police, Monday Bala Kuyars said those abducted are not Students of the University, but “salesmen working in some of the Shops.”

The Commissioner called on the Students and other residents in the area to be calm assuring them of safety of their lives and property.

Already, more Security personnel have been drafted to the area to tighten up security within and outside the Campus.
