The Federal Government of Nigeria in its 2022 Appropriation Bill sent to the National Assembly for approval, has budgeted over N516 million to revamp the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) and other infrastructures in 2022.
The Institute which serves as the training arm of the nation’s Public Service, was established to build the capacity of civil and public servants from all 36 states of the country.
A breakdown of how the money will be spent, showed that the sum of N17m will be used for the provision of solar-powered street lights, media equipment and a photo gallery stand at the Institute, located along the Kubwa-Zuba expressway, Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Also a total sum of N416m would be spent for the redesign and relaunch of three core training modules and career management development in the public service.
The government is expected to also purchase new set of vehicles which will cost about N29.5m, to be used by the Institute, as well as brand new computers valued at N48m, are expected to be purchased for the PSIN.
In addition, as part of its strategies aimed at curtailing global warming, the federal government has proposed to make available to the Institute, the sum of N6m for tree planting in 2022.
The Institute offers a comprehensive suite of programmes that build strategic capacity in the Public Service, focusing particularly on core areas in Public Governance, Leadership, Public Administration and Management.
A good number of civil servants across the country have in the past few years received training at the PSIN on various aspects of public governance including leadership, accounting, monitoring and evaluation among others.
