Nigeria’s Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, has noted that the transformative trajectory of ongoing reforms in the country’s Civil Service is “worthy of emulation with any Civil Service in the world”.

Heritage Times HT recalls that a 2020 Report by Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford University listed reasons why Nigeria was not included among the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries, which Civil Service were ranked on the International Civil Service Effectiveness (InCiSE).

Part of the reasons according to the Report, was that it was not possible to include Nigeria’s Civil Service because of insufficient data sources available matching the fine-grained data on Civil Service effectiveness available for OECD countries.

Speaking to journalists in Nigeria’s capital Abuja on Friday after a Special Juma’ah Prayer held at the National Mosque, she said her administration has taken a bold step to realign the Civil Service reforms toward the “Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu”.

At the special prayer which is part of activities marking the 2024 Civil Service Week, she said, “the Civil Service has reached a critical stage in the reform process and this is the right time to celebrate the successes recorded so far”.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr. Nasir Sani Gwarzo, Yemi-Esan admonished that Nigerians have began to see a Civil Service that is not only transformative, but worthy of emulation with any Civil Service in the world.

“We have harmonized the 2024 theme of the Civil Service Week, not only to be relevant to Nigeria, but also to align with the global efforts being made by Civil Servants all over the world, especially in Africa,” she added.

She also enjoined the Nigerian public, especially the Muslim Ummah, to continue to pray for the progress of the Nigerian Civil Service in guaranteeing the peace, stability and national development of the country.

Chief Iman of the National Mosque, Prof. Ibrahim Maqari prayed that Allah continues to preserve, support and protect the Civil Servants in the delivery of their responsibilities to the nation, a statement by M. A. Ahmed, Director, Communications of the OHCSF stated.
