Nigeria’s Super Eagles were on Sunday, held to a 1-1 draw by the Warriors of Zimbabwe in the ongoing 2026 World Cup qualifying series.
The same Nigerian side had drawn against a low-rated Lesotho on the matchday one of the qualifier with many calling for sack of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro.
The Super Eagles in their second match of World Cup qualifier at the Huye Stadium in Rwanda on Sunday conceded a free kick goal in the first half of the game.
And Peseiro’s men were duly rewarded with a 67th-minute goal from Kelechi Iheanacho, who fired a shot just inside the left post to equalise for the Super Eagles.
The pressure was on the Super Eagles as they needed a positive result after an underwhelming draw against Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium last Thursday.
The qualifiers resume in June 2024 with Nigeria hosting South Africa, current leaders of Group C, before travelling for an away game against Benin Republic.
