A French airport has been declared “indefinitely closed” after a cargo plane overshot its landing and ended up with its front end in a lake.
The Montpellier Airport, which services the nation’s Mediterranean coast, is where the West Atlantic flight stopped in reeds, grass, and water.
Just before 3 a.m. local time (4 a.m. UK time) on Saturday, the Boeing 737 missed the runway.
At the area around four miles from the French city, sixty firefighters have been deployed.
The jet, which also carried air freight, was safely evacuated of its three occupants.
According to the authorities, the airport is closed to passenger and cargo flights until the plane has been transferred.
An inquiry into the incident is ongoing.
