Following a reported possible terror attack in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, the US State Department has ordered the immediate evacuation of non-essential employees of US government employees and their families from the West African nation.
Recall that the United States Embassy in Nigeria had on Sunday issued a security alert, warning its citizens to avoid non-essential travels to Abuja, highlighting places like government buildings, places of worship and schools, among others as possible targets for attack.
“The US Embassy Abuja continues to have limited ability to provide emergency assistance to US citizens in Nigeria,” the State Department said on Wednesday.
Relevant security agencies in Nigeria had responded to the security alert by the United States.
While the foremost intelligence agency, the Department of State Services, DSS insists there is nothing new in the alarm raised by the US, the police said it has put strategies in place to ensure the security of all citizens and residents.
