Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that his government will not honour the meeting called by the Federal Government with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).
His reaction is sequel to a face-off with the NLC led by its President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, over the mass sacking of civil servants.
The aggrieved union members embarked on a warning strike that paralysed economic and social activities in Kaduna, and were hitherto dismissed by suspected hired thugs.
El-Rufai’s decision to ignore the federal government was made known in his statement broadcasted by the NTA, in which he said: “No official of Kaduna State will go to Abuja for any meeting with FGN (Federal Government of Nigeria) or NLC when the citizens of the state have no electricity.
“We hold the FGN responsible for (its) inability to assert its ownership rights over TCN (Transmission Company of Nigeria). No electricity, no meeting.”
The NLC had announced the suspension of the five-day warning strike, following the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige’s intervention, inviting the Kaduna government and the union members for an emergency conciliatory meeting on Thursday.
