The West African Examination Council (WAEC) says candidates without the National Identification Number (NIN) will not write the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as from 2022.
Disclosing to newsmen in Lagos at the Yaba office of the regional examination body, the Head of the Nigeria office, Mr. Patrick Areghan also announced that August 16, 2021 has been slated for the commencement of the 2021 WASSCE.
According to him, “In accordance with the Final International Timetable, the WASCCE 2021 will take place throughout the sub-region from Monday, 16h August to Friday, 8th October 2021.
“However, the examination will end in Nigeria on 30 September 2021- spanning a period of seven – weeks”.
Areghan said about 1.6 million candidates are expected to participate in the 2021 WASSCE.
He also said about 25,000 senior teachers would be appointed as supervisors for the examination.
The WAEC boss blamed COVID-19 for the postponement of the examination till August, against May/June.
Speaking on other logistics put in place to ensure hitch free exams, Areghan said: “On the issue of security/insecurity, we are liaising with the relevant Security agencies as this is purely within their purview. Moreover, we are trusting God, as usual, for His divine intervention.
“Let me use this opportunity fo warn all schools, candidates, supervisors, invigilators, principals and proprietors of schools, and indeed, all examination functionaries, to desist from all acts of examination malpractice,” he said.
“All rogue website operators are hereby seriously warned to desist from their nefarious acts,” he added.
