University of Abuja’s Centre for Undergraduate Research has awarded six students with research grants.
This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, during an interview with journalists at the end of the university’s second undergraduate research day.
He said, “This year, six students will be benefiting from the research grants. They will be sponsored in different areas of research. The University of Abuja has partnered with the Abuja Chamber of Commerce.
“The total grant is up to a million, around N900,000. We will be raising awareness that universities have a long way to go in helping to solve societal events.”
According to him, government, parents and industry must look up to universities to solve problems.
He added, “Our goal is to ensure that whatever we do as research, the industry will pick it up and develop it further for the betterment of the society.
“Research is about finding solutions to national problems. We want their mind to be set up in such a way that every day they think about bringing change to the society. We want to also raise awareness that universities have so much to contribute to our world.”
He urged other universities to emulate the University of Abuja by having centres of undergraduate research.
Director, Centre for Undergraduate Research, Dr Taibat Atoyebi, said 28 applications were received from students, out of which the best six students were chosen.
