Nigerian star Tobi Amusan on Thursday evening won the 100m hurdles at the Diamond League taking place in Zurich, Switzerland, finishing 12.29 (-0.3) to blaze through another world record set 22 years ago.
Apart from retaining the title she won in 2021, Amusan comfortably broke the record set by an American, Gail Devers in 2000.
The now world record holder continued where she left off after dominating the women’s 100m hurdles at the ISTAF 2022 Berlin meeting on Sunday September 4, 2022 in a time of 12.45 secs.
Tia Jones followed in 12.40s and Brittany Anderson in third with 12.42s.
Last time out, Amusan made history as the first Nigerian athlete to win a Diamond League discipline when she stormed home first in a then 12.42 seconds African record at the final in Zurich.
The event led to a chain of firsts for the Nigerian, thereafter, as she became the first from her country to win a world title, the first to set a world record, the first to successfully defend a Commonwealth Games title, and of course, the first to set a Games record in the high hurdles.
The nation’s biggest athlete of the moment, had become the first Nigerian track and field athlete and the second in history to successfully defend a Commonwealth Games 100m hurdles title.
