Ms. Ginwala, 90, passed away on Thursday night.

According to a statement from his office, President Cyril Ramaphosa has ordered that the national flag be flown at half-mast throughout the nation until the evening of Tuesday, January 24, 2023.

On a formal memorial service that will take place in Johannesburg on Tuesday, more information will be released later.

When the African National Congress (ANC) was outlawed in 1960, Ms. Ginwala lived in exile in Mozambique during that time. From there, she aided many notable ANC members in their attempts to flee the country.

Additionally, Ms. Ginwala traveled the globe to raise awareness of the crimes committed during the apartheid era on a global scale.
