Efforts by a Nigerian billionaire Dozy Mmobuosi to takeover the reigns of an English club Sheffield United, may collapse.
Already, Mmobuosi had supported the Championship club that just gained promotion to the English Premier League with over £8.7million, getting ready to pump in £115million to buy.
However, UK’s Daily Mail reports that Mmobuosi’s relationship with the club’s current owner Prince Abdullah has broken down to such an extent that the ownership deal for the Championship side is in major jeopardy.
The African tycoon is said to have pumped close to £9million into the Bramall Lane club since November to help the cash-strapped Blades fulfil their financial obligations on the expectation his protracted buy-out would be ratified early in 2023.
The report is coming few days after reports that Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, was reportedly in talks to acquire a 60% stake in French Ligue 2 side, Valenciennes FC for a fee of €10 million.
In Nigeria, Mmobuosi has concluded plans to bankroll the second edition of a pre-season tournament for 12 clubs in the country’s premier football league.
According to plans, the winner of the competition will take nothing less than N1 billion, second runners up N200 million, with all participating clubs taking N10 million each.
