Morocco have remained Africa’s number one footballing nation after World football governing body, FIFA, released June edition of rankings.
The North African nation, sitting in 13th place globally, have been on the soaring stage since being the first team from Africa to reach the semi-final of the World Cup in 2022.
They are followed by Senegal at 18th position, Tunisia (31), Algeria (33) and Egypt (34) in the top five.
According to FIFA, Nigeria stepped up to 39th position from 40 in April.
The three-time African champions gained a total of 5.68 to move up a place from their position last April.
Nigeria played just one game in the last international window, beating Sierra Leone 3-2 to book their place in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
On the world stage, world champions Argentina are still the number 1, ahead of France, Brazil, England and Belgium.
Nearly three months on from regaining top spot, La Albiceleste remain out front, thanks to friendly wins over Australia and and Indonesia few days ago.
Another FIFA ranking will be made known on July 20, 2023.
