Information reaching Heritage Times HT reveals that Finidi George has resigned as Nigeria’s Super Eagles head coach.
This was revealed by a former Super Eagles Media Officer Toyin Ibitoye via X.com.
He wrote, “News just in. Finidi George #FinidiGeorge_FG has resigned from his #NGSuperEagles manager position.”
With the latest development, though not yet confirmed by the George and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the former Ajax man is now the coach to have handled the Super Eagles in a shortest time after getting the job on permanent basis.
His decision may not be unconnected to the decision of NFF to appoint a foreign coach to boss him after the national team failed to win 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
His demotion meant his year’s contract will be downgraded and his reported monthly salary of 15 Million Naira will be reviewed downwards to five Million Naira.
The 53-year-old coach was appointed new Super Eagles coach in May to succeed the Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, who left the post after his contract ended in February.
He was an assistant to Peseiro for 20 months.
