Former Machakos Town Member of Parliament, Victor Munyaka has turned down President William Ruto’s offer to chair the Kenya Animal Genetic Resource Centre, citing deep reflection and consultations.
In a signed statement, Munyaka explained that after careful consideration of the political climate, which he believes may hinder the government’s economic agenda, he made the tough decision to decline the role.
“After soul-searching, extensive consultations, and in view of the current political environment, I have respectfully decided to decline the appointment,” he said.
Despite his refusal, Munyaka expressed gratitude to President Ruto for considering him and wished the head of state success.
This move follows Munyaka’s recent public criticism of Ruto, accusing the president of sidelining the Ukambani region in government appointments. During a recent event, Munyaka said that although his remarks might seem rebellious, he had to voice the concerns of those who had supported Ruto’s presidency. He lamented the lack of services and employment for his constituents.
Munyaka’s rejection comes amid criticism from both allies and political rivals.
On Sunday, former Chief Administrative Secretary, Jackson Kala termed the appointment of Munyaka as a mockery of the highest degree suggesting that Munyaka, a staunch supporter of Ruto, deserved a more senior role, like that of a Principal Secretary.
