Senegal has confirmed the production and international sale of 3.8 million barrels of crude oil from its offshore Sangomar field since the beginning of 2025, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines on Tuesday.

The ministry described the field’s output as a strong start to the year, noting that four shipments identified as SAN027, SAN028, SAN029, and SAN030 have already been lifted and successfully sold on the global oil market.

“Production from the Sangomar oil and gas field remains robust, and current output projections for 2025 are holding steady at approximately 30.53 million barrels,” the statement read.

The ministry also disclosed that during the first quarter of 2025, Senegal sold 548,078 normal cubic meters of natural gas from the field, highlighting a growing contribution of gas sales to the country’s revenue stream.

The Sangomar field, located around 100 kilometers offshore from the capital city Dakar, represents Senegal’s first offshore oil development. Operated by Australian energy firm Woodside Energy, oil production officially commenced on June 11, 2024, positioning Senegal as a rising player in Africa’s hydrocarbon sector.

The government sees the project as a critical component of its broader strategy to diversify the national economy, attract foreign investment, and improve energy self-sufficiency. Officials say continued success at Sangomar could place Senegal on a path toward becoming a significant regional energy exporter.

As global demand for reliable energy sources remains high, Senegal’s early production results from Sangomar offer promising signs of long-term viability and economic impact.
