An Equatorial Guinea national who became notorious for his leaked sex tape has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment over his role in embezzlement of public funds.
Baltasar Ebang Engonga, a senior official of the Central African nation’s government was sentenced on Wednesday by the Bioko provincial tribunal.
According to the supreme court press director Hilario Mitogo, Engonga was found guilty of diverting money claimed as professional travel expenses for personal use.
Engonga, a former head of the national financial investigation agency, and five other senior officials were accused of embezzling expenses worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in the oil-rich country.
The former financial crimes investigation chief has last year made headlines over his leaked adult tapes, some of which were filmed in his office at the finance ministry.
The tapes were released on the social media while he was still in detention pending the embezzlement case.
The clips, some of which involved married women, sparked online debate on fidelity in marriage.
Back in Nigeria, a herbal mixture dubbed Baltasar, believed to energise men, has since hit the market.
Mitogo said Engonga was given an option of fine worth $220,000.
