Afreximbank has announced an ambitious plan to enhance the competitiveness of African airlines by leasing 25 aircraft through its subsidiary.
This move, disclosed recently by Helen Brume, the bank’s project and asset-based Finance Director, was revealed at the Airline Economics Growth Frontiers Global conference in Dublin, Ireland, held from January 12 to 15.
Heritage Times HT reports that the aircraft will address the critical need for improved aviation infrastructure across the continent, with a specific focus on Nigerian airlines.
Afreximbank has been instrumental in supporting key carriers like Arik Air, Kenya Airways, and TAG Airlines, and now aims to boost Nigeria’s aviation sector through strategic aircraft financing.
This initiative comes on the heels of Nigeria’s improved score under the Cape Town Convention, a milestone praised by Boeing’s finance director, Lereece Rose.
Also, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo’s efforts to improve Nigeria’s financing environment were highlighted, with plans in place for a committee to ensure the partnership’s success in improving airline services and growth.
