African senior women national teams have fared better in the latest FIFA ranking released few days after the 2023 Women’s World Cup ended in Australia and New Zealand.
Nigeria, Morocco and South Africa gained points to shoot up.
Nigeria remains the top-ranked African nation.
The Super Falcons are now ranked 32, having moved eight places up.
Women’s World Cup debutants, Morocco, made the biggest jump from 78 to 58th, moving 14 places up.
The second biggest climb in the rankings is South Africa.
Banyana Banyana are now 45th on the standings, moving an impressive nine positions.
Zambia’s Copper Queens also made a good improvement in their rankings after moving from 77th to 69th position.
For the first time, three African countries – Nigeria, Morocco and South Africa reached round of 16 with Super Falcons rising tops before losing narrowly to England through penalty in the round of 16.
Other countries including Ghana, Cote d’ivoire, Zambia, Tunisia, Equatorial Guinea and Algeria made the top 10 ranking list for Africa.
