The Confederation of African Football (CAF) did not include a single player from the Super Eagles squad in the CAF Best X1 for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon.
Barely 24-hours after the Teranga Lions of Senegal emerged winners of this year’s edition, the continent’s soccer governing body as usual released a list comprised of the best players at the just concluded tournament.
Unfortunately, no Nigerian including Moses Simon, who had an outstanding debut at the AFCON also made reserve bench.
Champions Senegal had four players in the squad with goalkeeper of the tournament; Edourd Mendy, Saliou Ciss, Namplays Mendy and Most Valuable Player Sadio Mane among the Best X1.
Runners-up Egypt had three players on the list with Vincent Aboubacar the only Cameroonian player in the squad.
Despite qualifying from their group with a perfect win record, Nigeria crashed out in the last 16 following a shock 1-0 loss to Tunisia.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have now shift their focus and attention to the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying play-off against Ghana in March.
