A Magistrate Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced a member of the house of the representatives, Victor Mela Danzaria to prison for lying under oath.
Honourable Victor Mela representing Balanga-Billiri Federal constituency in Gombe State under the platform of the All Progressive Congress APC was found guilty of lying under oath while filing the CD001 INEC form prior to the 2019 elections.
The court also found that the lawmaker lied about his citizenship asIt was discovered that Mela has a British passport.
He was therefore sentenced to one-month imprisonment with an option of fine.
It is worthwhile to note that Mr Mela contested under the All Progressives Congress in February 2019 and polled 45,112 votes to defeat a serving member, Ali Isa JC, who scored 35,395 at the National assembly elections.
The embattled lawmaker is also the Vice-Chairman of the House Committee on Solid Minerals.
