English Premier League side, Brighton, on Sunday shocked fellow campaigner and defending champions Liverpool 2-1 out of the FA Cup in the fourth round.
The defeat further captured Liverpool’s woeful performance in the current football season.
Earlier in the day’s encounter, Liverpool came out strong and a very incisive Mohamed Salah almost scored the first goal in the opening minutes, but Lewis Dunk made a goal-saving block on the line.
The Egyptian led the Reds’ attack, his speed causing real problems to the Brighton defence.
However, the Seagulls are tough to beat at home.
Harvey Elliott put Liverpool ahead, Lewis Dunk equalised before halftime and the score stayed at 1-1 until Mitoma found the net in the 92nd minute with a fine finish.
The game was on a knife-edge and either side could have taken it on the counter-attack.
And in this atmosphere of chaos, Mitoma appeared.
The Japanese had the last word of the match to eliminate Liverpool from the FA Cup.
It was the second time Brighton defeated Liverpool this month, having also beaten Jurgen Klopp’s side 3-0 in a Premier League game.
The Reds coached by experienced Klopp, have now been knocked out of the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup and are currently 21 points behind the League leaders.
They have the Champions League as their only chance of winning a title this season.
