The country was struck by a significant storm on Sunday, resulting in torrential rainfall and, consequently, the tragic disaster.
The Red Crescent organization acknowledges that the true extent of this calamity remains uncertain.
Officially, the death toll stands at a minimum of 2,300 lives lost.
Nonetheless, reports from media outlets have cited a spokesperson from the interior ministry, indicating that over 5,300 casualties have been recorded in Derna city, the hardest-hit by this catastrophe.
Regrettably, this toll is anticipated to rise as approximately 10,000 individuals remain unaccounted for.
Meanwhile, in eastern Libya, rescue teams are unwavering in their mission to deliver urgently needed relief to areas ravaged by the floods.
Transporting aid to survivors has proven to be a formidable challenge due to the destruction of numerous roads by the raging floodwaters.
The political strife in the nation, divided between two competing governments, has further complicated these rescue endeavors.
On Tuesday, the Libyan Red Crescent issued an urgent appeal to the international community, emphasizing the immense scale of the devastation faced by the nation.
