Diego Maradona last featured for Argentina during their second group game against Nigeria at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States.
At that time, he was 33 years of age and was obviously the star of the match, but the South American did not have it easy with the Super Eagles.
Samson Siasia had put Nigeria ahead 8th minute into the game.
But Argentina drew level in the 21st minute after goalkeeper Peter Rufai could not handled a set piece to allow Claudio Canigga slot in from a rebound.
Barely seven minutes later, Maradona broke the hearts of Nigerians when he assisted Caniggia for his second goal of the game.
One of my earliest football memories was watching a ‘past it’ Diego Maradona do damage to an excellent Nigeria team at USA 94
He was probably half the player he used to be at that point but was still arguably the best on the pitch

La Albiceleste won the tie 2-1, but that didn’t stop Nigeria from winning the group which also had Bulgaria and Greece. However, Argentina qualified as one of the best third-placed teams.
For Diego Maradona, it was his last competitive game for Argentina after a failed drug test resulted in a ban that drew the curtain on his international career.
