Speaker of the Nigeria’s 9th House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has resigned his membership of the 10th House inaugurated in Abuja on Tuesday.
His resignation letter was read on the floor of the House on Wednesday by the newly elected Speaker and his immediate successor, Tajudeen Abass.
He was first elected in the House to represent Surulere 1 Federal Constituency of Lagos State in 2003, making him one of the oldest parliamentarians in the country.
Before his appointment by President Bola Tinubu as his Chief of Staff, Gbajabiamila was re-elected and sworn-in as a member of the 10th House of Representatives.

The former Speaker subsequently took a bow before the new Speaker and the members before walking out of the chamber amidst cheers and standing ovation from the lawmakers.
During his two-decade law-making career in the House, Gbajabiamila was Minority Leader, Majority Leader, and Speaker at various times.
He sponsored the Students’ Loan Bill which was on Monday signed into law by President Bola Tinubu.
He promised to give his best in his new assignment as the President’s Chief of Staff.
