The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) as part of efforts to strengthen welfare, improve workplace safety, and enhance productivity across the Federal Civil Service.
This was contained in a statement signed by Eno Olotu, Director of Press and Public Relations in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, following the commissioning of the ECS Help Desk in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, described the scheme as a critical intervention designed to provide timely compensation and support for civil servants affected by work-related injuries, diseases, disabilities, or death.
She explained that the ECS complements existing welfare initiatives, including the Group Life Assurance Scheme, while broadening the scope of protection available to public servants and their families. According to her, the initiative underscores the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to safeguarding the well-being and dignity of government workers.
As part of the rollout, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) to ensure seamless implementation of the scheme.
Managing Director of NSITF, Barrister Oluwaseyi Mayomi Faleye, described the ECS as a significant step toward institutionalising structured care and protection for civil servants. He noted that the scheme is backed by a transparent, payroll-driven system aimed at ensuring efficiency and accountability.
Faleye added that the ECS Help Desk will serve as a one-stop platform for information dissemination, claims support, and feedback, thereby improving service delivery and accessibility for beneficiaries.
The introduction of the Employees’ Compensation Scheme marks a major milestone in the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to reinforce workforce protection and build a more responsive and efficient civil service.
