Coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, Otto Addo has admitted that he felt pity for the Super Eagles after they failed to pick the ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Nigeria is set to miss the World Cup after the second leg play-off against their West African neigbours ended 1-1 at the MKO Abiola stadium in Abuja on Tuesday.
Otto Addo’s men secured automatic qualification for the World Cup via the away goal rule.
The first leg of the encounter ended goalless at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi last week Friday.
Speaking in the wake of his team’s qualification, Addo said: “I’m really delighted, exhausted, it was a tough match and we fought our way through.
“We had big problems especially in the first half, and through some changes, the players gave their tactics very well and still they [the Nigerians] had some good chances.
“Our goalkeeper was there when we needed him and we had a little bit of luck also, because if you see the chances the Nigerians were better.
“I feel a bit pity for them but this is football, sometimes and we fought our way through.”
The draw for the Qatar 2022 World Cup will hold on Friday. The draw will go down at the DECC venue in Doha, Qatar.
The other countries on the continent to qualify for the global showpiece include: Senegal, Morocco, Cameroon and Tunisia.
