Ahead of the 2023 CAF Awards scheduled for Monday, December 11, 2023 in Morocco, organisers have unveiled the top three nominees for all the categories for the 2023 Awards.
For the men, Mohamed Salah (Egypt, Liverpool), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco, Paris Saint-Germain), and Victor Osimhen (Nigeria, Napoli) were listed.
Asisat Oshoala (Nigeria, Barcelona), Thembi Kgatlana (South Africa, Racing Louisville) and Barbara Banda (Zambia, Shanghai Shengli) made final three for women.
The ultimate winner of each category is decided following votes from a panel consisting of CAF Technical Committee, media professionals from Member Associations, Head Coaches & Captains of Member Associations and clubs involved in the group stages of the Interclub competitions.
Osimhen As Favourite
Meanwhile, former Super Eagles captain Austine Okocha has tipped Osimhen to win the Men’s Player of the Year individual diadem.
OsioOkocha stated that his compatriot was the most consistent player last season and should win the award.
“He [Osimhen] deserves it because for me, he was the most consistent player of last season. He deserves it,” Okocha said during a Bundesliga media round table.
The 24-year-old led Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years last season, scoring 26 goals, and is looking to become the first Nigerian to win the award since Kanu Nwankwo was named the best player on the continent in 1999.
