A jailbreak incident has occurred in Benin, Edo State, as suspected hoodlums broke into the prison also known as White House to set inmates free.
However, the armed squad of prison officials engaged the suspected hoodlums in a shoot out from which some persons reportedly sustained injuries.
The Heritage Times gathered that the hoodlums organized themselves along Sapele Road beside the prison as early as 7 am setting bonfires and sending back road users.
An eyewitness on the scene disclosed to our correspondent that the attack followed immediately when they discovered they had increased in number. According to him, they broke a part of the wall while some scaled the fence into the prison yards.
Also destroyed was the High Court 4 which is beside the prison where the hoodlums vandalised.
Hence, the incident has forced the Edo State Government to declare a 24 hour curfew to prevent further attacks on individuals and government properties.
