The Minister of Youths and Sports Development Sunday Dare has slammed Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr over his lack of faith in players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The German tactician has been accused of treating the domestic players unfairly, but the Sports Minister says that it would no longer be tolerated.
Rohr has constantly come under fire over failure to invite more NPFL players to the Super Eagles since he took over at the helm in 2016.
The 68-year-old has relied mostly on foreign players since he took charge as Nigeria’s national team coach.
Hence, Dare has expressed his disappointment over the continuous snub of NPFL stars after visiting the home-based players at their Abuja camp ahead of the trip to the United States to face Mexico.
Enyimba’s Anayo Iwuala has played a part in recent Super Eagles games, with Rohr saying all of Nigeria’s best players are in Europe.
However, Dare – who isn’t with the German’s approach has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to have a talk with Rohr on his behaviour towards NPFL players.
“I just found out that he has travelled ahead, but I think it’s important that we’ll tell the NFF; The NFF needs to call Gernot Rohr to order because we cannot have a technical coach who will discriminate among our players.
“They are football players and they have talents you cannot discriminate against. His attitude towards Home based players is unacceptable, it is negative to our football development in this Country and I call on the NFF to call him to order, I call on the NFF to hold him by the content, by the letter of his contract.
“But beyond that he needs to shut up and do the work for which he was hired to do, he talks too much.” he told reporters.
Nigeria will face on July 3 Mexico at the LA Coliseum that has a capacity of around 78,000 in California, United States of America.
