Over 400 beneficiaries in Onna Local Government area of Awa Ibom state have received free quality healthcare from 25-year-old Akwa Ibom-born Remarkable Mary Akpan.
Her platform, the Mary Remarkable Foundation which aims at serving humanity, rolled out the free healthcare services on Sunday, July 11 during a one-day medical outreach to the less privileged.
Several eye tests were conducted and over 100 people with challenging eyesight were given free medical attention, along with drugs and eye drops and over 30 medicated glasses.
No one was left out, as children, youths and adults who were able to make their way to Onna for the event were attended to free of charge.
One of the beneficiaries, a technician by occupation who couldn’t see properly due to his broken glasses, was given a new pair by Mary Remarkable Foundation.
Expressing joy and gratitude to the Foundation, he said: “I’m very happy. I just heard the news last Saturday. I was opportuned to get tested and today, I’ve gotten my lenses, it’s the lenses that I’m putting on right now. It’s very costly and very nice. I pray God to give Mary Remarkable more resources to continue to do this.”
He also called on well-meaning individuals to emulate Mary Remarkable in touching the lives of people around them as their contribution to making the world a better place.
“If we have like that, three in this community, I think a lot of problems will be solved. So, thank you Mary Remarkable,” he added.
Similarly, another beneficiary, Pastor Nketiah, also showered praise and prayers of sustenance to the Foundation who answered his seven-year prayer for aid with his sight.
“I’m so delighted, I’m so grateful, I’m so happy. I never believed that what I’m seeing now can happen, really, in Nigeria today, I never believed, but I want to give thanks to God for keeping Mary Remarkable as a blessing to this generation. I really really appreciate her and I say may the good God continue to bless her bountifully in Jesus name, Amen.
“It’s over seven years now, I’ve been having challenges with my eyes and now I’ve gotten the glasses I can see very clearly, in fact, I’ve become refreshed,” he said.
The Foundation also carried out Malaria Parasite test, HIV Serology screening, Hepatitis B and C Screening, Random Blood Sugar Level test, Vital signs check, BP measurement and Anthropometric evaluations.
There was also free medical consultation and treatment, deworming, distribution of free medications, mosquito insecticides, treated mosquito nets, sanitary pads as well as counselling, health talks, community education and sensitisation.
The outreach was sponsored by Bokano, Platinum inovative, Ti-best Pharmacy and Geedee Food Enterprise.
